The CIA has generally denied involvement. But a dispute has erupted with the Justice Department over whether the agency has cooperated fully with Justice’s investigation of the BNL case. The CIA “refuses to get into a cat fight” with Justice, said spokesman Peter Earnest. “We won’t discuss our intelligence sources in public or to Congress.” CIA chief Robert Gates plans to retire in January. Earnest said the decision was not connected to BNL.
