RELATED: Stray: The Biggest Fixes the Game Needs
As players make their way through the decrepit city, they’ll come face to face with the game’s primary antagonists, the Zurks. These mysterious critters can quickly chew through a feline’s nine lives, so players will need to remain on their toes in order to complete Chapter 2 of Stray and escape the Dead City unscathed.
How to Complete Chapter 2 of Stray
When the chapter first begins, the playable kitty will be moving a little gingerly after its fall. In fact, it will end up collapsing after taking just a few steps, which leads to a cutscene in which a nearby door can be seen opening. Shortly after, the playable feline will once again get to its feet and will this time be able to walk off its injuries after a moment or two.
After recovering, players should pass through the gap in the newly opened door and hop over the fence in front of them. They’ll encounter a dead robot and some mysterious creatures here, but, for the time being, the latter seem to have no interest in the cat and instead decide to flee, allowing players to continue on. When they reach the floating barrels just up ahead, they should hop across and then make their way to the right of the screen.
Upon passing through a gap in a metal fence and hopping through a hole in the wall, players will find themselves in a wide open room with some pipes leading upward. Rather than scaling them straight away though, players should grab the metal bucket from the back-right hand corner of the room by pressing the Triangle button. They can then take this with them to the area above and press Triangle again to drop the bucket into a giant spinning fan, allowing them to safely pass through.
The next area contains a bunch of paint cans and some scaffolding. Players should look for the line of four paint cans to their left and use Triangle to push the two middle ones off the edge. This will allow them to jump forward onto an old air conditioning unit. From there, they should jump to the yellow air conditioning unit to their right and then up to the area above where they’ll find another paint can and a large spattering of blue paint.
By pressing Triangle a few times here, players can push this paint can off the edge. This will shatter the glass window beneath the ledge, allowing players to hop down into the building below. While they’re here, players should make a point of scratching one of the two rugs in the room they land in, as this will be needed for those hoping to unlock the “Territory” trophy in Stray.
Exiting this apartment will lead players to a metal bucket that’s attached to a piece of rope, which they can hop into by pressing the X button. This will take them to the area down below, where they’ll encounter more of those strange creatures from earlier. A little further ahead, they’ll also find a dying robot, though should ignore this and instead hop up onto the nearby rooftop with the neon sign. A little further ahead, they’ll come to a cutscene and the game’s first pursuit section.
Avoiding Zurks can be a little tricky, particularly when players are first starting out. It should go without saying, but they’ll want to be constantly running during pursuit sections, which means holding down the R2 button for those playing on PlayStation. It also helps to zigzag a little, as Zurks have a habit of randomly diving onto players and sucking the life out of them. If this should happen, players will need to mash the Circle button in order to shake them off.
After about a minute of running, players will come to a set of stairs leading downwards followed shortly by a set that leads up. After climbing the latter, they’ll be able to hop over a gap and into an open window, which ends the chase for now. After a little scratch, players should continue onward, climbing the nearby stairs and then following the neon signs by hopping across the rooftops and airconditioning units.
Eventually, players will come to a wooden beam, which they’ll need to push over by pressing the Triangle button. They’ll then need to head through the window with the blue glowing light behind it and follow the path ahead to an area with an empty metal barrel. By climbing inside this barrel and walking to the right, players can use it to get up onto a metal awning to their right, from which they can continue following the neon signs.
The next section is all fairly linear, with a few metal beams to cross and another wooden plank or two to push down. One of these planks will end up breaking, causing the kitty to fall to a lower level of the scaffolding. If they keep following the path ahead of them though, players will eventually come to a room with a spinning fan on the far wall.
Once they do, they’ll need to look for a socket with an energy cell in it in the back left corner of the room. Upon finding it, they should press Triangle to remove the energy cell and stop the fan. This will enable them to pass safely through the shaft and dive headfirst into Stray’s third chapter, The Flat.
