Priyanka demurs. At 28, the Delhi University graduate has worked in two election campaigns. Tall and witty, Priyanka wrote many of the speeches her mother gave for Congress party candidates. Priyanka has emerged to fend off reporters curious about her future. “Why is it so difficult for you to understand that I can come here to work, without wanting to get into politics?” she asks. For one, her parents were both reluctant politicians who eventually succumbed to Congress party pressure to run. Priyanka smiles and says with finality: “My father was my father. My mother is my mother. And I am me.” We shall see.
