Can I Record My Screen Using Only AMD Software?

Yes! If you’re using an AMD graphics card and have the appropriate drivers installed, you can very quickly set up your own streaming or screen capture setup.

It’s easy, and works almost flawlessly on AMD hardware.

Features Available In AMD Software

AMD Radeon Software comes with a complete streaming package and handy playback features for your favorite games.

In terms of recording footage in an offline capacity, AMD Radeon Software boasts the ReLive package. You can:

Save an instant replay of the last few minutes Play an overlay of your recent in-game replay in your current game (In-game replay) Instantly save a GIF of gameplay footage Full SteamVR integration for VR gameplay recording

Pretty impressive. This is alongside tracking of performance metrics, smart window selection and dynamic FPS adjustment for recording, all that runs off ReLive.

Installing & Accessing Screen Recording Features

If you’re running AMD hardware, specifically a GPU, there’s a good chance you already have this software package, ready to go.

Open the Start Menu and search Radeon. If you see AMD Radeon Software appear, you’re in luck, and you have it!

Hit the Gear Icon in the top right corner, go into General and start enabling the features you want!

There is a small chance you’re running the drivers required for your AMD hardware, but you don’t have this feature package installed.

If this is the case, head on over to the official AMD support page to download the Auto-Detect and Install tool for AMD hardware.

Let the installer do its work, and after a restart, you’ll have access to the tools you’ll need to stream and record!

Default Key Binds & Features

Depending on your hardware, more advanced features of the AMD Radeon Software may be unavailable. Let’s go through all the features that will be immediately accessible regardless of hardware power, and how to use them.

Note: These features are unlikely to be enabled by default. Follow instructions listed above to enable the features you need in the General settings page.

Recording Media

There are four main hotkeys for capturing media: screenshots, videos, or even GIFs. Here are the default bindings.

Instant Replay: Crtl + Shift + S Take Screenshot: Crtl + Shift + I Take Instant GIF: Crtl + Shift + J Save (and play) In-Game Replay: Crtl + Shift + U

You can change all of these bindings from their default values in the Hotkeys section of Settings.

Additionally, a more standard ‘hit-and-record’ function is available with Crtl + Shift + E to toggle recording on and off. Your webcam can also be activated and deactivated with Ctrl + Shift + C.

Streaming Suite

The streaming suite can be quite advanced. With its own dedicated tab, you can immediately begin streaming once you’ve hooked up an account or custom stream URL.

To do so, head into said Streaming tab from the main screen of the software. Under Controls, use the drop-down menu to select a streaming service. Choose between streaming your full screen or a specific region.

From here you can hit Go Live, but most streamers have a bit more to set up than that.

Right-click on one of the boxes listed under Scenes. Hitting Edit will bring you to an overlay editor, allowing you to manage your custom effects, images, and chat overlays.

There are a few hotkeys associated with streaming, but only one is active by default. Head into Hotkeys under Settings to change this.

Using Ctrl + Shift + G, you can toggle your active stream on or off.

While programs like Nvidia Shadowplay and OBS Studio have their merits, it’s hard to deny how far AMD has come in offering comprehensive features for its drivers.
