Werewolf By Night sees several monster hunters competing in a ritual hunt, with the winner acquiring the Bloodstone - a powerful artifact that can deal great damage to even the strongest monsters. Though the goal is to find and kill the monster first, what ensues is essentially a battle royale competition, as hunters are free to kill each other to improve their chances of being victorious. Though the concept makes for an action-packed live action project, it truly is perfect for a video game.

What a Marvel Game Inspired By Werewolf By Night Could Look Like

Werewolf By Night spends a bit of time detailing each hunter’s history of kills, with the film also showcasing their unique fighting styles in several scenes. This could lead to an important aspect of every match, with players choosing their monster hunter before they hop into an arena. Marvel fans could choose from a tanky character with a large weapon, a marksman with a bow, or a speedy fighter with a blade, with each choice leading to different gameplay style and coming with unique upgrades.

After choosing their hunter from the lineup - which could feature standout characters such as Blade and Werewolf By Night’s Elsa Bloodstone - players could enter an arena like the one from the Disney+ project. By making this arena maze-like, similar to the one seen in the film, gamers could have no idea what to expect whenever they turn a corner. Placing some powerful weapons throughout the arena could also be a fun way to shake things up a bit and make each match feel different.

As for the core gameplay loop, a cross between a game like Evolve and a battle royale project could be ideal. One player could control the monster, who is tasked with the goal of killing everyone inside the arena. Several other players could be hunters, and they could have the freedom to work together or fight each other. This could open up a fair bit of strategy, as two hunters could eliminate all the other characters, weaken the monster, and then battle it out to decide who finishes the creature off.

As for potential monsters, Marvel has no shortage of strange characters that could function as a big threat for hunters to fight and fear. The MCU’s Werewolf by Night featured two of them with its titular character and Man-Thing, though others like the Wendigo and Abomination would be viable candidates. Like Evolve, giving each of the monsters its own set of moves could add replayability, though any developer that takes on this project would need to make sure all the creatures are balanced.

Proximity chat could be an excellent way to encourage team-ups with other hunters, while a neat touch could play on the MCU film’s visual style. The entire match could have a black and white filter, with color only returning when the monster has been killed or all the hunters have died. Though it makes more sense to make games based on major heroes like Captain America, a Werewolf By Night project would instantly become the most unique Marvel game yet. Giving players the chance to briefly team up or kill each other off could lead to some exciting moments, and hunting players down as a character like Man-Thing would result in an awesome power fantasy.
